Changes Covina Recreational Vehicle Ordinance
Covina is proposing an "unreasonable" Recreational Vehicle Parking ordinance, which includes; ALL CAMPERS, TRAILERS, MOTOR HOMES, BOATS,TRAILERS, ALL-TERRAIN VEHICLES, DIRT BIKES, GO-CARTS, DUNE BUGGIES AND GOLF CARTS. No Rec Vehicle shall be parked or stored between the front lot line and the front building line of any residential zoned lot. (Some homes have three to four large SUV's parked in the front driveways) No Rec Vehicle shall be parked or stored between the front lot line and the front building line; corner lots shall apply both side and front yards to this rule. (Unfair to corner lot owners.) Rec Vehicle's must be stored with at least three feet of open access in all side yards on the lot. ((Many driveways are right at the property line.) Parking Orientation; RV's must be parked perpendicular to the front lot line. (How does the direction a Rec Vehicle is parked improve health and safety?) No overnight parking of Rec Vehicle's on residential streets. (Again, how does getting a permit for your car differ from getting one for your RV? Are cars parked overnight on the street safer and healthier than temporary parking your RV/Dune Buggy or Golf Cart on the street?) MOST REC VEHICLE OWNERS TAKE CARE OF THEIR VEHICLES IN A RESPONSIBLE MANNER, WHAT IS THE KEY ISSUE HERE? COVINA CITY COUNCIL SHOULD WORK WITH RV OWNERS TO REACH A REASONABLE PARKING STORAGE AGREEMENT, WE ARE NOT GOING TO SELL OUR VEHICLES, OR HOMES, HOMEOWNERS NEED TO BE ABLE TO KEEP THEM ON THEIR PROPERTY. That is why they have RV Storage facilities so other people don't have to look at your "toys" and believe me, a LOT OF PEOPLE DON"T take care of their RVs properly. Drive around Covina for some good examples! Posted by Collector a 54 year old on 01/09/06

If RVs are not stored properly or are unsightly, then they should be addressed. Why punish the ones that are in yards that are kept up and well stored? Many yards have several old cars out front and unkempt lawns, why only try to ban RVs? Our yard is one of the best and cleanest in the neighborhood. Posted by Lcm a 57 year old on 01/09/06

Who determines what is stored properly or unsightly?? How do you know that the neighbor, 2 doors down, doesn't think your RV is an eyesore, or what about the person across the street. If I had several old cars on a property near me, I would turn them in and stay on it until they were gone.If residential properties were meant to have RVs on them, then there would be RV garages on each property. Rvs belong in a PROPER storage area away from residential properties. And, by the way, I OWN ONE. Posted by Collector a 54 year old on 01/10/06
